A Visit to Our School:
Visitors to North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts see students exhibiting their talents to parents and community members through participation in student exhibitions, performances, and productions. Each spring the Arts Team creates an exhibition/performance calendar for the following school year. Recent exhibitions and performances include the Nutcracker Ballet, the Annual Spring Musical, Edison “Light Up the Town” steel drum band parade, Edison Festival Block Dance Party, Edison Festival of the Arts, and the annual Shakespeare play. Press releases, flyers, and phone calls advertise and promote every event. Additionally, students participate in local, regional, and statewide competitions that provide them the opportunity to transform their classroom learning into real world experiences.

Our Special Arts Programs:
The North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts embraces a dynamic, comprehensive arts education program for all students. An “arts attractor” school, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts provides its students in grades K-8 with the opportunity to study within several arts disciplines. The K-3 students attend music, dance, and visual arts once a week and have the additional opportunity to study violin. Fourth and fifth grade students are given the opportunity to choose a track from visual arts, music, chorus, bells, band, theatre, or dance that they attend daily along with physical education. Middle school students can choose up to three arts electives from a variety of options including beginning or advanced visual art, drama, dance, steel drum band, chorus, and costume design.

In all disciplines, visiting artist are invited to share and assist students with their artistic growth. Recently the middle school visual art department hosted workshops taught by professional artists Howard Hartke (ceramics) and Carroll Swayze (printmaking). These workshops provide students an opportunity to learn about new techniques and inquire about what it’s like to work as a professional artist.
