Our Pride
What sets West Port High School apart from other high schools is the collaboration among the arts teachers, as well as the collaboration with other curriculum areas. When it comes to putting on a production such as Don Quixote, the entire school is involved. Students are reading the novel, the art students are designing posters and promotional material, the orchestra is working on the music, dancers are part of the production, and the theatre students are working on their final main stage production of the year. Students genuinely care about each other and celebrate the success of all students.

The faculty is recognized statewide as well as nationally and internationally. Teachers are featured presenters at national conferences and are asked to do workshops in the U.S. as well as abroad. Most of the faculty have at least a MFA and three have been recognized in our district as Golden Apple Teachers.

Students and staff at West Port High School understand the value of the arts in education and have created a mutually supportive environment that allows all students to succeed.

A Visit to Our School:
If you want to see full integration of the arts visit West Port High School. You will find students all over campus with instruments, cameras, etc. Groups of students can be found rehearsing throughout the campus, before school, after school, during lunch, and between classes. You can see other curriculum teachers using the arts to enhance and support their curriculum.

Our Special Arts Programs:
West Port High School is special because our philosophy embraces the belief that all students are talented. Auditions are placement auditions and all students are welcome to attend. This allows students who have never studied the arts to find the artist within and take a chance in learning something new. Last year students in our arts programs were awarded over half a million dollars in scholarships to some of the most highly competitive art schools in the nation. Some of these students had never participated in the arts before coming to West Port High School. We think that is pretty special!
