Dario Moore
Choreographer, Dancer Co-founder of U-Turn
Dance
|
Dario J. Moore, choreographer,
dancer and co-founder of U-Turn Dance, comes
from a long line of dancers. His grandparents
and great-grandparents were professional dancers,
and his great-aunt, Bettie Jean Smith, was a "Rayette"—a
backup dancer for Ray Charles who toured with
Charles whenever he toured Alabama, Florida and
Mississippi in the '50s and '60s. But dancing
didn't come easy to this native Floridian. In
fact, he didn't take his first formal dance class
until he was 17—an interesting back story
for a man who was recently named Seminole County
Artist of the Year.
Moore co-founded U-Turn Dance, a humanitarian-centered
professional dance company, with Craig W. Johnson
in 2000. U-Turn's most recent production, Unheard
Insight, was ground-breaking for both its ability
to incorporate blind and deaf dancers into a contemporary
dance experience about moving beyond boundaries,
and for the collective performances that provided
inspiration to audience members of all ability
levels.
Moore's insights into and vision for U-Turn Dance
and the Central Florida artistic community make
him an invaluable local cultural resource. Moore's
drive and passion make him a man on a mission. |
