Katie Adams is a professional puppeteer, storyteller, and teaching artist who has shared her creative, animated performance style with audiences at theaters, libraries, schools, festivals and museums for many years. In 2000 she started Make Believe Theater, dedicated to inspiring a love of stories, reading, theater and visual arts, with highly entertaining performances that advance the arts of storytelling and puppetry.

With a background in visual arts, puppet-theater, dance and mime, Katie’s original shows range from inventive, multi-media productions to simple, yet powerful tellings of folk tales, fairy tales and myths.

Katie has toured nationally with her puppet shows; highlights include the Smithsonian Discovery Theatre, the Puppet Showplace in Boston, the Great Arizona Puppet Theatre, the Puppetry Arts Institute in Independence, MO, and more. Shehas performed her storytelling shows recently at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, The Mahaffey Theater, and the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. She has been a regular at the Florida Folk Festival and the Cracker Storytelling Festival, and in 2014 was a featured teller at the Florida Storytelling Festival.

Katie is a member of the Puppeteers of America, Inc. and the Florida Storytelling Association.

I have a BFA in sculpture with a minor in theater and a minor in dance from Alfred University. I have additional training in puppetry, storytelling and mime. Since 2000 I have worked with the Artist-in-the-Schools of Hillsborough County Public Schools to bring performances and workshops to elementary schools. I provide theater field-trip shows for regional theaters such as Center Place in Brandon, FL, the Duncan Theatre in West palm Beach, and the Straz Performing Arts Center in Tampa. I also teach after-school classes in storytelling with the Hillsborough County Public Library system and school HOST programs.
