During this interactive workshop, Orlando Shakes’ Teaching Artists help your students bring a book to life, be it Magic Tree House, Miss Nelson Is Missing, Interstellar Cinderella, or any favorite children’s story. Students are introduced to the theater artist roles of director, stage manager, and actor. Through interactive games and theater exercises, students explore the story’s settings, characters, costumes, and props by creating a “snapshot” of story elements using their own bodies as statues. Students are then challenged to create their own “spin-off” story that take the characters from the story to new places…

Multi-talented performers Rob Thomas & Tanya Gerard will weave didgeridoo world music and awe-inspiring projector visuals into a captivating and interactive program. Students will learn how the air we breathe was created; they’ll marvel at prehistoric creatures roaming primordial landscapes; they’ll explore a mysterious underground plant communication network; they’ll observe interactions between different animal species; and most importantly, they’ll learn how to protect our beloved Earth….
The DDU Show is an energetic fusion of Australian music, culture, art, science, comedy, character building, anti-bullying and audience participation. The didgeridoo has been played by Aboriginal Australians for at least 1,500 years, and is known for its otherworldly sound. DDU performer Darren Liebman plays a variety of exotic didgeridoos and worldly percussion instruments, demonstrating various playing styles and upbeat rhythms. He also uses a multitude of props – motivational signs, maps, globes, artifacts, artwork, puppets and more – to deliver educational lessons and empowering messages. The program is very participatory, and several segments involve students playing instruments, dancing or acting out a story. DDU is interactive, educational, motivational and super fun for al ages!
